A historic operation in the Spanish capital
The arrival of Pope Leo XIV in Spain has triggered the largest security deployment in the history of the National Police, which has mobilised over 15,000 agents across the country. This event, which will take place from today until June 12, includes stops not only in Madrid but also in Catalonia and the Canary Islands.
From early this morning, agents have begun patrolling the streets of Madrid to ensure the safety of the Pontiff and the thousands of faithful expected. A crucial part of the operation has been carried out by the Canine Guides unit, who conducted a thorough inspection in Plaza de Lima. This meticulous search ensures that the area is completely clean and safe before the massive arrival of attendees.
The deployment includes 2,600 trainee police officers, coming directly from the National Police School of Ávila. These young officers will not only reinforce operational duties during this week but will also face a real and demanding test as part of their professional training.
Aside from the deployment in Madrid, other key locations such as Barcelona, Las Palmas, and Tenerife will also have significant reinforcements: 600 agents in Barcelona, 1,200 in Las Palmas, and 1,000 in Tenerife. Coordination among these forces is essential to ensure a safe environment during all scheduled events.
As the official start of the papal tour approaches, both authorities and citizens display a palpable mix of excitement and anticipation. The visit of Pope Leo XIV represents not only a significant religious event but also an unprecedented logistical challenge for law enforcement.
