An event that will mark a milestone in the wine sector

The Spanish capital, Madrid, will become the stage for the first international wine fair, known as Winemad, which will take place from 27 to 29 May. This event has been designed to bring together key players in the wine sector, including wineries, distributors, and importers from various parts of the world.

Gerardo Correas, one of the main proponents of this initiative, has highlighted the importance of creating a space where wineries can connect directly with buyers and wine professionals. “This fair aims not only to be a meeting point but also to generate real business,” he stated during the official presentation to the media.

Although Spain is recognized as a powerhouse in wine production, Correas emphasized that many medium and small wineries face challenges in accessing new markets. “It is essential to establish organized platforms that facilitate these connections,” he added.

Winemad is based on three strategic pillars: internationalization, business generation, and strengthening the wine sector. The fair is designed exclusively for professionals, which will help reduce intermediaries and facilitate direct commercial agreements between wineries and buyers.

One of the most notable aspects will be the Hosted Buyer programme, which aims to bring together up to 250 international buyers. These professionals have been selected for their purchasing power and influence in various markets. So far, 178 buyers have confirmed their attendance with pre-established agendas to maximize business opportunities during the event.

The choice of Madrid as the venue is not coincidental; the city is considered one of the major economic and logistical centres in Europe. Correas emphasized: “Madrid is a nerve centre where distributors and importers converge.” This strategic location promises to attract a wide variety of participants interested in exploring new opportunities within the wine sector.

Aside from the main event at IFEMA, Winemad will also include a series of cultural and gastronomic activities under the name Taste Madrid. During the ten days leading up to the fair, restaurants and cultural spaces will offer wine-related experiences, bringing this culture closer to the general public and further connecting the sector with Madrid's cultural life.
