Preparations for an Unprecedented Event

This Saturday, Madrid is preparing to host the first Formula E Grand Prix in Spain, an event that promises to attract thousands of fans and vehicles to the Jarama circuit. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has implemented a special operation to manage traffic and minimise any inconveniences that may arise during the day.

It is estimated that around 7,000 vehicles will head to the event, which could cause significant congestion on the A-1 motorway, especially between kilometres 14 and 27. To mitigate these issues, the DGT has designed a plan that includes the collaboration of personnel from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, as well as technical staff from the National Traffic Management Centre and local agents.

Those not attending the Grand Prix should take into account the recommendations issued by the authorities: avoid travelling on the A-1 between 07:00 and 17:00 hours. Alternative routes such as the M-607 towards Colmenar Viejo or using secondary roads like M-50 or M-100 are suggested to avoid the congested access to the circuit.

To facilitate access to the event, it is highly recommended to use public transport. The organisation has set up a non-stop shuttle bus service, which will connect strategic points such as the nearby Telefónica park-and-ride and the Ronda de la Comunicación Metro station. This will allow attendees to arrive comfortably without having to worry about traffic.

Given the expected large turnout, two main parking areas have been arranged:

  • ZONE P-1: Capacity for 3,800 vehicles, adapted for people with disabilities.
  • ZONE P-2: With space for 1,900 cars and continuous service to the circuit.

However, it is crucial to remember that parking on the shoulders is prohibited, which could result in penalties. Authorities urge all attendees to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during this exciting sporting event.
