The Community of Madrid has reported Rayo Vallecano for blocking access to technicians who were to carry out urgent works at the stadium. The situation jeopardises the club's continuity at the venue.
The Community of Madrid has decided to intervene directly in the management of Vallecas Stadium after Rayo Vallecano prevented access to technical staff responsible for carrying out urgent works. This measure comes after serious security deficiencies were detected, leading to the precautionary suspension of the stadium's concession, which could seriously affect the club's future. The regional government filed a complaint with the National Police on Wednesday, arguing that the club's officials did not allow the designated workers to enter to carry out essential tasks such as inspections and repairs. According to official sources, the technicians arrived at the stadium at 9 a.m., but found the doors closed. Despite this refusal, some workers began work on an adjacent building leased to sports federations. However, the staff responsible for maintaining the pitch could not access the field.
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, harshly criticised Rayo Vallecano's attitude:
“This has always been the club's modus operandi and it is what is destroying the image and prestige of Rayo Vallecano and the stadium.”
This situation has led the regional government to consider that the concessionaire lacks sufficient legal title to continue its activity, which implies a drastic change in the management of the sports venue.
As a result of this intervention, a procedure has been initiated to formally extinguish the current concession. The previous technical audit had revealed “serious deficiencies” that compromise both safety and health within the stadium. De Paco explained:
“The audit tells us that the safety of individuals could not be guaranteed,”
thus emphasising the urgency and importance of the necessary reforms.
From now on, each day without official activity at the stadium will be the direct responsibility of the Rayo Vallecano management. The regional government has also classified a document submitted by the club requesting previously sent documentation as a “new delaying manoeuvre.”
This crisis is not new for fans or sports managers; similar situations have occurred in other stadiums where structural problems have led to government interventions. In 2018, for example, another Madrid club faced a similar crisis due to structural failures detected during an annual audit.
As this administrative process moves towards the definitive extinction of the current concession, a new contract is expected to be formalised to manage and operate Vallecas Stadium. This new agreement will include greater demands to ensure necessary minimum standards and avoid future irregularities.
