A milestone in the construction of the Madrid circuit
The world of motorsport is in full swing following the recent E-Prix of Madrid, an event that has served as a prelude to the arrival of Formula 1 in the Spanish capital this September. In this context, Eiffage Construction has taken a decisive step by completing the paving of one of the most iconic curves of the new circuit, known as ‘La Monumental’.
With an impressive length of 620 meters, this curve is distinguished by its lateral inclinations that vary between 18% and 25%. This design not only promises to be a challenge for drivers, but it is also expected to become an iconic point within the global F1 calendar. From above, it is already possible to appreciate its definitive shape, marked by the black asphalt covering its surface.
Eiffage Construction has implemented sustainable practices throughout the process. The asphalt mixture used for this project has been optimized to reduce the thickness applied to the track, decreasing from 10 cm to 8 cm. This modification not only reduces material use by 20%, but also contributes to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Approximately 80 professionals, including over 35 specialized technicians, have been involved in this ambitious project. The use of two state-of-the-art pavers has ensured precise execution in line with the technical demands of the track. This joint effort is crucial to ensure that the single-seaters can achieve their maximum performance when hitting the accelerator.
As the date of the Grand Prix approaches, Madrid is positioning itself as a new reference point in international motorsport. The completion of the paving of ‘La Monumental’ is just one of many steps towards an event that promises to attract thousands of fans and generate a significant economic and cultural impact on the city.
