Uncertainty at Sevilla FC
The current situation at Sevilla FC is a hot topic among fans and sports analysts. In a recent statement, the club's president, José María del Nido Carrasco, addressed the implications of a potential purchase by an investment group that includes the renowned footballer Sergio Ramos. Del Nido did not hesitate to assert that, if the acquisition goes ahead, it is likely that the current board of directors will not continue in their roles.
The president made it clear that if the purchase does not take place, he does not anticipate significant changes in the club's management. According to his words, there is a pact with the majority support of shareholders backing the current board of directors. However, his lack of information regarding the status of the audit requested by potential buyers adds an air of uncertainty to this situation.
Throughout his tenure, Del Nido has faced numerous challenges. In the last four years, Sevilla has had as many as nine different coaches. This fact has led the president to take his share of responsibility for what he considers a lack of proper functioning within the club. The urgent need to balance the accounts has become evident following the recent sales of key players such as Loïc Badé and Dodi Lukebakio, which has significantly limited options to strengthen the team.
Despite the economic and sporting obstacles, Del Nido maintains an optimistic outlook for the future. Aware of the delicate moment the club is going through —three points above the relegation zone— he emphasizes his commitment to keeping Sevilla in La Liga while working to stabilize finances. “We have set a clear objective: to balance the accounts and ensure our survival,” he stated.
The recent dismissal of Argentine coach Matías Almeyda, although painful for Del Nido due to his personal appreciation for him, also highlights evident mistakes in sports planning. With Luis García Plaza now at the helm, there is renewed confidence in meeting the goals set for this season.
Despite the immediate challenges, Del Nido also has ambitious plans for the future of Sevilla FC. He remains determined to carry out significant reforms at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium. With municipal approval already secured following a favourable urban study, he hopes to begin these works starting in July 2027.
