Madrid Barajas-Adolfo Suárez airport is preparing to welcome the Spanish football team, which will land this Monday around 13:50 hours, one hour later than scheduled. The national team, travelling on an IBERIA Airbus A350, returns triumphant after winning the 2026 World Cup in the United States by defeating Argentina in the final. This is Spain's second World Cup title, adding to the one achieved in South Africa 2010. The team's arrival has generated great anticipation; since early morning, dozens of fans have gathered in terminal 4 of the airport, many wearing national jerseys and carrying flags. More than two hundred journalists are accredited to cover this historic event.
The delay in the flight is due to the takeoff from Newark International Airport occurring an hour later because of the celebrations following the match and the extra time that led Spain to victory. The World Cup trophy, a symbol of the success achieved by La Roja, is also on the plane.
Official celebrations will begin later that same day at 17:30 hours, when the players will be received by members of the Royal House. Subsequently, they are expected to head to Moncloa at 18:00 hours, where an open-top bus parade will commence to reunite with the fans.
The parade route will pass through some iconic points in Madrid. From the Palace of Zarzuela, they will continue along the A-6 to Moncloa and then through streets like Princesa and Alberto Aguilera before arriving at Plaza Cibeles, where the central event will take place. This route is significant not only for its sporting symbolism but also because it revives similar historical moments when Spain celebrated its previous victories.
From 18:00 hours, a stage will be set up next to the Palace of Communications with music and performances to entertain the wait until the players arrive around 21:00 hours. Recognised DJs and prominent artists are expected to participate in this popular celebration.
