The Andrés Torrejón Sports Centre has been left in a critical state after Summerfest, triggering a political clash in Móstoles. The PSOE demands immediate repairs and clear accountability.
The celebration of Summerfest in Móstoles has left the Andrés Torrejón Sports Centre in an alarming situation, with the athletics track and grass severely damaged. This deterioration has sparked an intense political debate, where the PSOE has demanded answers about who will bear the costs of the repairs. During the last municipal plenary session, socialist councillor Carlos Rodríguez displayed images that highlight the severity of the damage and called for immediate action to restore the facilities before the start of the new sports season.
Rodríguez directly linked the state of the sports centre to the festival, pointing out that this event cost more than €400,000 of public funds. “There is no need for an assessment; there should already be a report, and the repairs should be underway,” he asserted firmly during his speech.
In response to these accusations, the Sports councillor, Ángel Álvarez, defended that a technical assessment is currently being conducted to determine the exact extent of the damage. “The Sports department is evaluating the situation, and a report will be issued so that Móstoles Desarrollo can take the appropriate measures,” Álvarez explained.
Despite this explanation, the socialists were not satisfied and continued to pressure the municipal government to act swiftly. Additionally, Rodríguez urged the City Council to initiate tenders to renew not only the athletics track but also the changing rooms and pavilion of the sports centre, works that have been postponed for too long.
This exchange of accusations between political parties also included allegations regarding the previous PSOE administration's management of the maintenance of sports facilities. Álvarez argued that his administration plans to allocate more than €4.5 million to the Andrés Torrejón Sports Centre due to years of lack of investment by the previous socialist government.
