A new chapter in Real Madrid's rivalry
The tension between the former leaders of Real Madrid has intensified with a recent exchange of words that has captured the attention of fans and sports media. Ramón Calderón, the club's former president, has seized upon the recent complaint by referees against the current president, Florentino Pérez, and Real Madrid TV to launch scathing criticisms of the current board.
This Thursday, a statement issued by Spanish referees revealed that they had filed formal complaints against Pérez and the club's official channel. The Spanish Football Referees Association (AESAF) argues that certain public messages have contributed to creating a hostile environment towards the referees, which is detrimental to the development of the sport.
“The reiteration of certain public messages contributes to deteriorating the climate of respect necessary,” the statement notes.
Calderón was quick to respond, quoting a famous phrase from Alfredo Di Stéfano: “A great club should never complain about injuries, bad luck, or refereeing.” With this, he aimed to call into question the current management of the club and its relationship with the referees.
However, his attack did not go unnoticed by David Álvarez, one of the most recognisable faces of Real Madrid TV. In a direct and straightforward comment, Álvarez reminded Calderón that during his tenure, analyses of refereeing errors were also conducted on the club's official channel. “Hello, Ramón, just to mention that during your time we also made videos about refereeing errors on RMTV,” Álvarez wrote. This comment has been interpreted as a clear 'zinger' towards Calderón.
As the presidential elections at Real Madrid approach, where Enrique Riquelme has already announced his intention to run against Pérez, these internal disputes seem to be intensifying. Supporters are keen to see how these tensions may influence the political dynamics within the club and what repercussions they will have for its immediate future.
