A night of chaos in Vigo
The city of Vigo was shaken by a violent clash between football fans the night before the anticipated Europa League match between Celta de Vigo and Olympique de Lyon. The fight, which involved numerous ultras from both teams, left at least three people injured, according to sources from 112 Galicia.
The disturbances took place near the 20th Century Rock, a popular venue located in the Areal, an area known for its nightlife. Eyewitnesses report that around fifty local fans gathered in the area with the intention of seeking out the French supporters.
The Celta ultras arrived at the scene armed with sticks and with their faces covered, creating a tense atmosphere. Although the bar staff attempted to close the doors to prevent conflict, the masked individuals began breaking windows and attacking the establishment. In response, Lyon fans also tried to defend themselves by throwing furniture at their attackers.
The situation escalated quickly, leading to the intervention of several vans from both the Local and National Police. Additionally, ambulances from 061 arrived at the scene to attend to the injured. According to authorities, three people were taken to Álvaro Cunqueiro hospital; two of them were French fans who suffered head injuries during the altercation.
This incident once again brings to light the issue of violence in football and how it affects not only those involved but also the entire community. Local authorities have expressed their concern over these violent acts and have urged all fans to enjoy the sport without resorting to aggression.
