A call to action amid the energy crisis
The surge in energy prices, exacerbated by the conflict in Iran, has led Rocío Albert, the Economy Councillor of the Community of Madrid, to make an urgent call to the central Government. In a recent interview, Albert emphasised the need for the Executive to act with speed and agility to mitigate the economic effects this situation is causing for both families and businesses.
The lack of updates in the state’s advance payments has begun to have a significant impact on regional finances. According to Albert, it is estimated that 375 million euros will be lost each month, a crucial amount for maintaining essential public services such as healthcare and education. “This money is vital, especially at a time when inflation is rising and making these services more expensive,” she stated.
Aside from the energy issue, Rocío Albert also addressed the urgent need to reform the regional financing system. The councillor criticised the current model for disproportionately favouring Catalonia while leaving the rest of the autonomous communities behind. “It is essential to create a new system that equitably benefits all regions,” she asserted.
Albert emphasised that without a clear project for the State General Budgets, all state investments are stalled. This situation creates a total opacity, allowing the Government to arbitrarily decide which communities receive more resources and which receive less. “This is a serious management problem that directly affects our economic development,” she added.
Despite the complicated outlook, Rocío Albert highlighted that Madrid remains an attractive region for international investors, especially from the United States. The councillor reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining these trade relations and seeking new opportunities to strengthen the local economy.
As summer approaches, economic aid aimed at expanding businesses and those affected by public works is expected to be implemented. These initiatives are seen as necessary steps to alleviate current economic tensions and foster a healthier business environment.
