The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has lashed out at the Government's recent plan to approve the General State Budgets. At an informational breakfast organised by Nueva Economía Fórum, Ayuso described the express debate opened this July on the financing model and deficit as a “distraction maneuver” aimed at hiding the corruption scandals affecting Pedro Sánchez and his administration. The criticism comes after statements from the Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, who announced a deficit set at 0.1% and an 8% increase in territorial financing during a Fiscal and Financial Policy Council. The Madrid president did not hesitate to label these measures as part of a “deception.”
“Everything is a deception,” Ayuso stated.
The regional leader also emphasised that the Popular Party has denounced that the Government's actions only seek to please their political partners without actually counting on their support. This situation is exacerbated by the existing tensions between the autonomous communities and the central administration, especially regarding the unique financing system for Catalonia. Rocío Albert, the Madrid councillor for Economy and Finance, has been a constant critical voice against these fiscal policies. During her speech, Ayuso warned about the risk of tampering with such crucial instruments as the Budgets: “They are playing with something very serious,” she said. The president also expressed her concern that this new attempt may not succeed: “We all know it won’t come to fruition. It’s a new sham,” she concluded. Such accusations are not new; criticism towards Moncloa has intensified in recent months due to various political and economic scandals that have marked the public agenda.
