A new educational horizon in Madrid
The Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) has taken a significant step towards modernising teacher training by announcing the creation of its new Faculty of Education Sciences, which will begin operating in the academic year 2026/2027. This ambitious project will be located on the Getafe campus and promises to transform the way future educators are trained.
One of the most notable features of the new degree is its strong emphasis on practical training. UC3M has confirmed that 80 ECTS credits, equivalent to approximately one third of the total curriculum, will be carried out in educational centres within the Community of Madrid. This positions this faculty as a leader in terms of practical offerings among all Madrid universities.
The new centre will initially offer two degrees: the Bachelor's in Primary Education and the Master's in Teacher Training, aimed at those wishing to teach in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate and Vocational Training (FP). This comprehensive approach seeks not only to equip students with theoretical knowledge but also with essential practical skills for their professional future.
Another relevant aspect is that the degree will be taught in a bilingual format, which will facilitate international mobility for students. UC3M has agreements with educational institutions in 55 countries, allowing students to enrich their educational and cultural experience.
The teaching staff will consist of prominent researchers, thus ensuring an education based on innovative methodologies and cross-cutting content. Additionally, students will have access to core subjects such as mathematics didactics, language and English, both within the university classroom and in real school environments.
The Master's programme will complement this educational offering with three specialisations: Spanish Language and Literature, Philosophy, and Technology. This programme will combine theoretical training with practical workshops and innovative methodologies, ensuring that future teachers are well-prepared to face contemporary challenges in the educational field.
