The works in the Las Margaritas neighbourhood will cover four streets and improve accessibility. They are expected to be completed in six months, benefiting the residents.
The Getafe City Council has commenced the works for the fourth phase of the Margaritas Plan, a project aimed at revitalising one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. This phase will focus on improving Amapola, Gladiolo, Adelfas, and Azahar streets, covering a total area of approximately 6,300 square metres. The investment for this phase amounts to 1,500,000 euros, reflecting the Council's commitment to modernising and enhancing accessibility in the area.
The works will not only focus on renewing the pavement and existing infrastructure but will also include significant improvements to the drainage system and areas designated for pedestrians and vehicles. Additionally, architectural barriers that hinder access to various facilities in the neighbourhood will be removed.
A notable aspect of this phase is the construction of a new climate refuge between Adelfas and Gladiolo streets. This refuge will be similar to the one previously implemented on Hortensia street, which has been well received by residents due to its ability to reduce ambient temperature by several degrees.
The Maintenance Councillor, Roberto Fernández, emphasised that this plan began nine years ago with the aim of transforming Las Margaritas into a more liveable and modern space. So far, over 4 million euros have been invested in different phases of the project, allowing for substantial improvements in other areas such as Santa Margarita María Alacoque square and several adjacent streets.
Over time, interventions have been made to turn these roads into communal spaces through the renewal of the pavement and efficient systems for rainwater collection. Green areas have also been expanded and urban furniture renewed.
The execution is scheduled to be completed within an estimated six months, during which it is expected to significantly improve access for emergency services to each of the streets affected by these works. This is crucial to ensure a quick response to any eventuality.
