Starting Monday, Getafe will begin repair works on Leganés Street, a project that will be carried out in three phases. The intervention aims to optimise traffic and modernise the Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout.
The Getafe City Council has announced the start of repair works on Leganés Street, scheduled to begin next Monday. This intervention will be carried out in three phases with the main objective of improving circulation and reducing inconvenience to residents during the summer months. The first phase will run from July 13 until the end of the month, focusing on the stretch between Maestro Arbós and Maestro Turina streets. During this stage, access to the La Alhóndiga neighbourhood will be guaranteed, although it will not be possible to access the centre via this route.
The following phases will include works between Maestro Turina and Estudiantes streets, as well as between Estudiantes and Rayo. In these areas, traffic cuts will be implemented, which will be properly signposted to inform drivers in advance. The Maintenance Councillor, Roberto Fernández, has highlighted that "Leganés Street carries a lot of daily traffic," especially due to its connection with the A-42 and M-406 roads. Therefore, it has been decided to take advantage of the summer months to minimise inconvenience to residents.
The project involves an approximate investment of 400,000 euros, aimed not only at repairing the pavement in sections but also at completely resurfacing both lanes leading into the city. Additionally, a significant improvement is expected at the Isidro Parejo Risco roundabout, located at the end of this road and connecting several important neighbourhoods such as Centro, San Isidro, and La Alhóndiga.
This action is part of a broader programme by the Maintenance area of the City Council to carry out improvements on various streets in the coming months. Among other notable projects is the restoration of two-way traffic on the livestock road of Perales del Río, which is scheduled for execution at the end of the month after receiving authorisation from the Community of Madrid.
Moreover, similar works are underway on other roads such as Madrid, Carpinteros, Zamora, Pamplona, and Valladolid. These initiatives aim not only to improve road infrastructure but also to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety throughout the area.
Residents should be attentive to informational signs regarding temporary cuts and diversions that may affect their daily routines during this period. Local authorities have assured that all efforts are focused on completing these works as quickly as possible to restore normal flow before the start of the new school year.
