With so many specifications, it's common to choose the machine that features the most well-known processor or the graphics card with the highest number. However, a good gaming PC is not solely defined by having powerful components.

Real performance depends on the balance between the processor, graphics card, RAM, storage, cooling, and power supply. The quality of the assembly, system optimisation, and upgrade possibilities also play a role.

Therefore, before comparing different  gaming PCs, it's advisable to define which games will be played, at what resolution you want to play, and what level of performance you expect to achieve.

What will you use the gaming PC for?

The first step in choosing correctly is not to look for a specific graphics card, but to determine what the machine will be used for.

A person playing competitive titles in Full HD does not need the same configuration as someone who wants to enjoy open-world video games in 4K. Likewise, someone who only plays will have different needs than someone who streams, edits videos, or uses professional software.

The Balance Between Processor and Graphics Card

One of the main indicators that a gaming PC is well-configured is the relationship between the processor and the graphics card.

Don't Choose a Graphics Card Solely by Its Name

The graphics card is often the standout component in a gaming PC's specifications. However, two systems that feature a GPU with the same name can offer different experiences.

In addition to the model, aspects such as:

  • The amount of video memory.
  • Power consumption.
  • The cooling system.
  • The installed power supply.
  • The available space inside the case.
  • The overall ventilation of the computer.
  • The processor it is paired with.

For example, an RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB can provide a superior margin compared to configurations with less video memory in certain games. However, this difference should not be assessed in isolation.

The resolution, graphical quality, upscaling technologies, and monitor refresh rate should also be considered.

Are 16 GB of RAM Enough?

16 GB of RAM remains valid for many games and budget configurations. A combination like Ryzen 5 5500, RX 6500 XT, and 16 GB of RAM can be suitable for starting out in gaming on a tight budget.

However, 32 GB has become a particularly recommended option for mid-range and high-end gaming PCs.

While gaming, it is common to have Discord, the browser, recording applications, monitoring programs, game launchers, and RGB lighting tools open.

A 32 GB configuration offers more headroom for multitasking, using demanding games, or streaming.

DDR4 or DDR5

DDR5 memory belongs to more modern platforms and offers greater bandwidth and better upgrade possibilities. It is commonly found alongside recent generation Ryzen processors or Intel Core processors.
