The new Housing Office in Alcorcón will soon open its doors, alongside a registry for those seeking public housing. This step aims to improve transparency in the allocation of homes.
Alcorcón is preparing to inaugurate its new Housing and Urban Agenda Office, a space that promises to revitalise the municipality's housing policies. The mayor, Candelaria Testa, announced that this project materialises after more than seven years of work, with the aim of facilitating access to public housing. The office will be located in the facilities where Emgiasa previously operated, responsible for the construction of 6,000 protected homes in the Ensanche Sur.
The renovation works of the building are nearly completed and the opening is expected to be imminent. Testa highlighted that this office will not only serve as an information point but also as the main headquarters to implement an Urban Agenda that addresses current housing needs.
A fundamental part of the new service will be the Housing Applicants Registry, designed to collect information about individuals interested in accessing future promotions and residential developments. This registry will allow the City Council to create a database that ensures transparent processes in the allocation of public housing.
Councillor Miguel A. González emphasised that this system will help identify the real needs of the neighbourhood and ensure greater clarity in the administrative procedures related to housing. "Housing is our priority; it is not a market, it is a right," Testa stressed during her speech.
In recent years, the progressive government has implemented various initiatives to regain the lost momentum in housing since 2019. Among these actions are the recovery of the assets and liabilities of Emgiasa and the unlocking of the Retamar de la Huerta urban development.
As Alcorcón moves towards this new stage, citizens will soon be able to register in this registry and obtain information about the City Council's future plans related to public housing. The official opening is scheduled for the end of next month, representing a significant opportunity for those seeking affordable options within the local real estate market.
