Increased surveillance in La Pedriza
With the arrival of summer, the Community of Madrid has intensified measures to protect one of its most visited natural treasures: La Pedriza. This emblematic site, part of the Guadarrama National Park, is facing increasing tourist pressure that threatens its ecosystem. To address this situation, authorities have decided to increase the presence of forest agents and security forces in the area.
Starting this summer, those looking to cool off in the upper course of the Manzanares River must be cautious. Patrols will cover the most frequented spots to inform about current regulations and remind that swimming is prohibited in much of the protected area. Although an educational approach will initially be adopted, authorities have warned that tolerance will be limited. Those who ignore the warnings could face financial penalties of up to 3,000 euros.
The prohibition extends from the source of the Manzanares River to the Santillana reservoir, a stretch considered vital for ecological conservation. Environmental officials emphasize that these measures are essential to protect both the native flora and fauna, which are increasingly threatened by rising tourism.
Despite the restrictions, water lovers can find relief in five designated areas where swimming is allowed without the risk of fines: Las Presillas, located in Rascafría; Los Villares, in Estremera; the Alberche Beach, in Aldea del Fresno; as well as areas known as El Muro and Virgen de la Nueva, both located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias.
