A new era for public transport in Madrid
The Community of Madrid has taken a significant step towards modernising its public transport network with the announcement of the start of works on the northern section of Line 11 of the Metro. This ambitious project, which will begin in 2027, aims to connect important points in the northeast of the capital and facilitate the movement of thousands of citizens.
With an estimated investment of 880 million euros, the new line will cover a total distance of 8.2 kilometres. It is expected to include six strategic stations: Mar de Cristal, Ifema, Ciudad de la Justicia, Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal, Airport T4, and Valdebebas Norte. This expansion will not only improve mobility within Madrid but will also allow travellers to access key infrastructures without needing to go through the centre.
According to recent statements from the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, this new connection will allow users to travel within an approximate radius of 30 kilometres, significantly reducing travel times. The entire journey is estimated to take just one hour and six minutes, representing a notable improvement over current options.
Ayuso also highlighted that the necessary administrative procedures to carry out this project have already begun. The processing is scheduled to be presented to the Governing Council soon. If everything goes as planned, the works will conclude in 2031.
A notable feature of the new section is its ability to link with existing lines. In particular, it will connect with Line 8 both at Mar de Cristal and at Terminal 4 of the airport. This will not only facilitate access to the airport from various parts of northeast Madrid but will also further integrate the metropolitan network.
