A new chapter in Pozuelo's mobility
The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT Madrid) has taken a significant step towards sustainability by starting the installation of the bicimad system in Pozuelo de Alarcón. This municipality thus becomes the first outside the Spanish capital to have this public electric bicycle rental service, marking a milestone in interurban mobility.
With a total investment of 2.32 million euros, the Pozuelo City Council has decided to fully cover the project's costs. This initiative will allow residents to enjoy 30 new stations, which will be equipped with a total of 370 electric bicycles, thus facilitating access to an eco-friendly and efficient means of transport.
The work to implement this system began this week and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, with the clear goal of having everything operational by next summer. The stations will be strategically located at key points such as San Juan de la Cruz Street, Estación Street, and near the Valle de las Cañas sports centre, among other notable places.
Through the agreement signed between both local administrations, a collaborative framework is established that ensures not only the proper implementation of the service but also its long-term maintenance. This agreement guarantees full interoperability of the service, meaning that users will be able to travel seamlessly between Pozuelo and Madrid, thus promoting a more connected and sustainable mobility.
The municipal government led by José Luis Martínez-Almeida has emphasized that this integration is a crucial advance towards a more efficient and eco-friendly model. The arrival of bicimad will not only facilitate travel within the municipality but will also encourage healthy habits among its residents by opting for alternatives to the car.
