A decisive year for the Madrid PP
The president of the Popular Party of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has made a strong call to her team in a recent Executive Committee meeting, emphasising that the path towards the upcoming regional and municipal elections is fraught with challenges. Despite favourable results in some regions, Ayuso stressed that "nothing is won" and that it is crucial to work with the same intensity as if they were in a permanent campaign.
The appearance came after the Andalusian elections, where the PP achieved mixed results. Ayuso did not hesitate to point out that these results could intensify the attacks from the Government of Pedro Sánchez towards the Community of Madrid, describing it as a "deeply sectarian Government." The president warned that, although her administration has achieved significant successes, they must be prepared to face a more aggressive opposition.
As the electoral cycle approaches, the Madrid PP has begun to activate its political machinery. Several key events have been scheduled, including working tables at the Emilia Pardo Bazán Cultural Centre under the slogan Madrid is in fashion. These meetings will bring together mayors and party members to discuss crucial issues such as the economy, housing, and social policies.
One of the most notable events will be the traditional party rally in Berlin Park, where Ayuso will take stock of her three years at the helm of the regional government. This event will not only serve to celebrate past achievements but also to reaffirm her commitment to the citizens of Madrid.
Ayuso also took the opportunity to defend her management against criticisms from other political parties. She emphasised that while other groups are caught up in internal divisions, Madrid presents itself as a model of stability and growth. "It is necessary to give our best version every day," Ayuso stated.
However, one of the highlights was her recent judicial victory regarding the declaration of the Royal Post House as a site of Democratic Memory. This decision was celebrated by Ayuso as further proof of the PP's commitment to defend what she considers fundamental democratic principles against what she describes as attempts by the Government to undermine these institutions.
