Ayuso launches unprecedented attack on the Government: 'Spain is in the hands of a mafia gang'

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has unleashed a political storm by describing the Government of Pedro Sánchez as a "mafia gang". In a context marked by recent judicial decisions involving figures close to Moncloa, Ayuso has raised the tone of her criticisms, accusing the Executive of manipulating institutions to protect its allies.

The controversy intensified when the former Attorney General of Spain, Álvaro García Ortiz, requested the Constitutional Court to annul his conviction for revealing secrets. This move has led Ayuso to point out that the president of the Constitutional Court, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, was politically appointed to facilitate impunity in this case. "The Attorney General, convicted by the Supreme Court, was placed there to commit crimes," Ayuso stated on her social media.

Ayuso did not stop there. She harshly criticised Sánchez's recent trip to China with his wife, Begoña Gómez, who faces charges for various crimes. The president considers this trip a mockery of justice and an attempt by the president to evade responsibilities while his circle is under investigation.

In an alarming diagnosis of the current political situation, Ayuso warned about the repercussions that this democratic degradation could have for citizens: "Spain is governed by a mafia gang. We will pay dearly for it." This statement resonates strongly at a time when institutions seem to be under pressure and questioned regarding their independence.

Ayuso's offensive coincides with the posthumous award of the International Medal of Arts to the renowned writer Mario Vargas Llosa. During this event, the president took the opportunity to champion democratic values and express her concern over what she sees as authoritarian attempts threatening the rule of law in Spain.
