A new chapter in Madrid politics
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has once again lashed out at the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, by pointing to him as the main responsible for a corruption scheme affecting his circle. During her speech on Telemadrid, following the commemorative events of May 2, Ayuso did not hesitate to state that "the 1 is Sánchez just as I am the 1 of the Community."
Ayuso emphasised that the responsibility lies with those who have come to power thanks to the actions of their close associates. "When the closest environment is involved, you cannot have more responsibility," she declared. The president also warned about the gradual deterioration of democracies, noting that they weaken when institutional functioning is altered and officials are pressured.
In a critical tone, Ayuso lamented that Sánchez has lost his way since his arrival at the PSOE. She recalled key moments where internal manipulation of the party and a climate of confrontation were evident. "This man can wish for whatever he wants; if it were up to him, he would be perpetual because nothing pleases him more than power," she added.
Despite the tense political context, Ayuso expressed optimism regarding the latest electoral polls that consolidate her absolute majority. She reflected on how her party has grown significantly since 2021 and acknowledged that she now receives support even from new voters. "You realise that people from all backgrounds vote for us," she stated.
Ayuso underscored the importance of being true to her principles and not seeking to please everyone in order to maintain the trust of her voters. She assured that this growth in popular support is gratifying and reflects an increasing identification with her liberal project. "For me, that is precious because it means you are convincing," she concluded.
