A new leadership for the popular youth
Ignacio Dancausa, current president of Nuevas Generaciones of the Partido Popular in Madrid, has announced his intention to run for leadership of the organisation at a national level. In an enthusiastic message posted on his social media, Dancausa expressed his desire to mobilise Spanish youth and contribute to Alberto Núñez Feijóo's rise to the Moncloa.
The young politician has stated his intention to create an inclusive candidacy, aiming to unite the youth of the PP at a crucial time for the party's future. “I want to lead a candidacy that includes everyone, where every voice has a place,” Dancausa affirmed. His announcement comes just before the Congress that will be held this Monday, where candidacies are expected to be formalised.
Dancausa makes this decision in a complicated context for Nuevas Generaciones, following the recent crisis caused by Carlo G. Angrisano's resignation as secretary general. Angrisano had been under media scrutiny for his criticisms of the party and his open support for Vox, which generated significant internal tensions.
The figure of Ignacio Dancausa has gained relevance thanks to the unconditional support of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid. They both share an academic history at the Complutense University, where Dancausa stood out for leading the association Libertad sin Ira, focused on fostering debate and challenging prevailing ideas in the university sphere.
Dancausa has urged young people from the Spanish centre-right to come out and make their voices heard: “It is essential that we are present in universities and residential colleges; we must be relevant and influential.” This call resonates with Ayuso's constant message about the importance of actively engaging in current cultural and political debates.
Under the current leadership of Beatriz Fanjul since April 2021, Nuevas Generaciones has faced significant challenges. The need to revitalise this youth organisation is more evident than ever, especially in the face of an increasingly critical and demanding young electorate.
