A New Leadership for the Youth of the PP
Ignacio Dancausa, current president of New Generations of the Popular Party in Madrid, has been elected as the new national leader of this youth organisation. This change comes after a significant agreement among the three main candidates for the presidency, who have decided to join forces and present a single candidacy for the XVI National Congress, which will take place in Valladolid on the 10th and 11th of July.
The pact between Dancausa, Antonio Landáburu, president of NNGG in Murcia, and Valencian deputy Candela Anglés, marks a milestone in the recent history of the party. The decision was announced through a video on social media where the three leaders expressed their commitment to building a common project within the youth organisation. This integration aims to represent the diverse territorial sensitivities that exist within the PP.
To formalise their candidacies, each candidate needed to gather at least 250 endorsements, with a minimum of 140 coming from seven different autonomous communities. The deadline for submitting these signatures ended on the 3rd of June. Although the organising committee planned to officially proclaim the candidacies on the 4th of June, the agreement reached has led to the creation of a single list that will be ratified during the congress.
Throughout his career, Ignacio Dancausa has proven to be a prominent figure within the youth sector of the Popular Party. His leadership has been recognised not only by his peers but also by significant figures such as Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, who has publicly expressed her support for him. On social media, Ayuso urged him to remain committed to the needs and aspirations of Spanish youth.
The support for the agreement has been swift within the party; Alfonso Serrano, general secretary of the Madrid PP, publicly praised this union as an effective way to strengthen New Generations in the face of future challenges. The integration is seen as an opportunity to revitalise the youth organisation and attract more young people to the party.
Dancausa not only assumes a new role; he also sets ambitious goals for his management. In his message following the announcement of the agreement, he stated that his aim is to make New Generations “the largest youth movement in Spain” and thereby contribute to the electoral success of national leader Núñez Feijóo. With this proactive and collaborative approach, Dancausa hopes to mobilise the new generations towards active participation in Spanish politics.
