The deputy spokesperson for the City Council, Eduardo Rubiño, has openly criticized Emilio Delgado for the way he questioned the party's spokesperson, Mónica García, during a recent discussion on LaSexta. This incident has highlighted internal divisions regarding the primary model that should govern the selection of the mayoral candidate.
The disagreement arose when Delgado defended a primary system that would allow any registered member to vote, arguing that this would encourage greater participation. However, García countered that only active party members should have the right to vote, as decided in an internal vote a year ago. This discrepancy not only reflects ideological differences but also concerns about the integrity and security of the electoral process within the party.
Rubiño did not hesitate to label Delgado's approach as incorrect, emphasizing that opening the vote to any registered person could lead to legal insecurity and manipulation. “Those who choose must be individuals committed to the project,” he stated during his appearance on Antena 3. This comment resonates with the official stance of Más Madrid's leadership, which seeks to protect internal processes from potential external interference.
Despite the public tensions, both sides seem to acknowledge that airing these disputes could be detrimental to the party's cohesion. Privately, they have admitted that it was a mistake to bring this disagreement into the public arena just after García announced her intention to run for the leadership candidacy.
“It is important to manage these discrepancies within the party,” reflected Rubiño, questioning how his actions could be interpreted by his colleagues. He also suggested that there is no issue with announcing candidacies as long as it is done with respect and consideration for other members.
