An Anticipated Meeting

On June 1st, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will have the opportunity to meet in a private audience with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. This meeting comes just before the Pontiff's apostolic trip to Spain, scheduled from June 6th to 12th, during which several activities are planned in the Spanish capital.

The initiative for this meeting is not recent; Ayuso had requested this audience since her appointment following the passing of Pope Francis. In March 2023, she had the chance to be received by Francis, underscoring her interest in maintaining a close relationship with the Holy See.

The confirmation of the meeting came through a letter signed by Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, regent of the Prefecture of the Papal Household. The audience is scheduled for 9:00 AM, a moment that promises to be significant for both Ayuso and the religious and cultural interests of Madrid.

Díaz Ayuso has expressed her enthusiasm for the Pope's visit and has stated her desire for it to be remembered as a successful event. “It is a unique opportunity to show the world how we live in Madrid,” she affirmed. The president highlighted that her region is a place where “everyone has their place,” emphasizing the values of respect and coexistence that characterize the Spanish capital.

Ayuso believes that this meeting will not only benefit Madrid but will also allow the Pope to learn more about local traditions and beliefs. “We want him to take with him the best possible memory,” she added. Such interactions between political and religious leaders are essential for strengthening ties between different cultures and promoting constructive dialogue.
