A call for coexistence and respect
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has made a strong call to avoid hatred towards foreigners in political discourse, emphasizing that it is crucial to maintain a balance between defending the interests of Spaniards and not fostering hostile attitudes towards those from other countries. During her speech at the II District Meetings of the Popular Party of Madrid, Ayuso highlighted that peaceful coexistence among diverse cultures has been a distinctive feature of the region.
Ayuso stressed that this coexistence must be supported by a firm application of the law. "We cannot allow our society to become a place where gangs and crime prevail," she stated, emphasizing that the rules must be applied without distinction, regardless of the offenders' origins. She cited both local and international examples to illustrate her point.
In her speech, she also addressed the recent immigration policies of the central Government, particularly the extraordinary regularization of migrants. The president expressed her concern about how these decisions could affect public perception of social services. "If there are problems accessing these services, some citizens might look for scapegoats among other citizens," she warned.
Ayuso linked the immigration debate with critical issues such as housing and social integration. According to her, the real challenge lies not only in the availability of resources but also in how these aspects are managed. She criticized the central Government for not generating enough housing and suggested that this could lead to social tensions if not adequately addressed.
In a more critical part of her intervention, Ayuso directed her darts at the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. She accused him of acting against interests even within his own party and questioned his political methods. "The problem is common to all of us," Ayuso said, urging not to fall into conformist practices and advocating for a liberal vision in an increasingly polarized political landscape.
