In an unexpected turn, Mónica García, current Minister of Health and a prominent figure of Más Madrid, has confirmed her candidacy for the 2027 regional elections. This announcement was made during the III edition of the La Madrileña fair, held last Saturday in San Blas, where she captured the attention of party militants and supporters.
Although sources close to Libertad Digital had anticipated this news the previous Wednesday, party representatives had firmly denied any movement related to a new candidacy. Manuela Bergerot and Rita Maestre, key figures within Más Madrid, had dismissed the rumours on several occasions, even in the corridors of the Assembly.
The political context in Madrid is complex. With Isabel Díaz Ayuso consolidating herself as a dominant figure in the region, Mónica García presents herself as a solid alternative to regain lost ground against the PSOE. In the last elections, García managed to secure 27 seats, surpassing her rival Juan Lobato by just 5,000 votes. This time, her goal is clear: to strengthen her position as the leader of the opposition and challenge Ayuso with an active campaign.
In recent days, Mónica has intensified her campaigning activities by visiting municipalities such as Leganés. Her approach has been direct contact with citizens through the classic method of “door to door,” where she seeks to listen to community concerns and strengthen her connection with the community.
