A new case of nepotism shakes the Getafe City Council
The political climate in Getafe has become tense following accusations from the Popular Party (PP) against the mayor, Sara Hernández, for what they consider a clear case of nepotism. The controversy revolves around the recent hiring of José María Jiménez Lalanda, partner of the spokesperson for Más Madrid, Ana Isabel González Mariscal, as a municipal advisor.
Antonio José Mesa, spokesperson for the municipal PP group, has not hesitated to label this situation as “another nepotism case” and has denounced that Hernández has turned the City Council into her “personal placement agency.” In his statements, Mesa emphasized that citizens are tired of these practices and that they will soon express their discontent at the polls.
Although Jiménez Lalanda has been working since February as a full-time political advisor, the corresponding decree that should have been signed by the mayor has yet to be published in the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid (BOCM). This omission is seen by the opposition as a clear lack of transparency and a deliberate attempt to conceal relevant information from the public.
Positions similar to that held by Jiménez Lalanda have an approximate salary ranging between 44,000 and 46,000 euros annually. This fact adds another layer to the scandal, as many citizens question whether it is ethical to allocate public resources to pay individuals with family or romantic ties to elected officials.
Despite the uproar, Más Madrid has defended Jiménez Lalanda's professional suitability to perform his role. However, this argument does not seem sufficient to calm the waters stirred by the PP and other critical sectors of the local government.
As criticism of the current management of the City Council intensifies, it remains to be seen how Sara Hernández will respond to these accusations. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether this scandal will significantly impact her administration or if she will manage to maintain her position in front of an increasingly demanding electorate.
