A serious accident occurred this morning in Rivas-Vaciamadrid when a 45-year-old woman was injured after becoming trapped in a paper container that was emptied into a recycling truck. The situation unfolded when the vehicle operator began the first compaction cycle, at which point the victim started to scream, alerting the worker to her presence.
The events took place on calle Folklore, where the operator, unaware that there was a person inside the container, carried out the usual procedure to collect recyclable material. As he lifted and tipped the container onto the truck's bed, the compaction process for the paper and cardboard automatically began. It was during this first pressing that the cries for help were heard.
The driver immediately stopped the mechanism and called emergency services. Members of the Fire Brigade of the Community of Madrid quickly arrived at the scene along with a nurse from Summa 112 to stabilise the woman before proceeding with her rescue. Using a ladder truck, they managed to access the inside of the truck and free the victim.
Doctors diagnosed the woman with fractures to her tibia, fibula, and pelvis, in addition to various injuries resulting from the entrapment. After receiving initial care, she was transported in serious condition to Hospital La Princesa, where she remains under medical observation.
