A Historic Agreement for Colmenar Viejo
The Community of Madrid has taken a significant step towards modernising Colmenar Viejo by signing a protocol of action that will inject 180 million euros into the municipality. This agreement, signed by the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor Carlos Blázquez, aims to transform the locality into a more accessible place with better public services.
One of the central pillars of the plan is the construction of over 900 affordable rental homes, with an investment of 100 million euros allocated for this purpose. This initiative is part of the Vive Plan, designed to facilitate access to housing, especially for young people seeking independence and new families wishing to settle in this area of northern Madrid.
The educational sector also receives priority attention. 25 million euros will be allocated for the construction of two new educational facilities: a Primary and Early Childhood Education school with a capacity for over 800 students, as well as a secondary school near the current Héroes del Dos de Mayo centre. These facilities will alleviate the school pressure generated by the demographic growth in Colmenar Viejo.
Regarding health services, a new health centre is expected to be built to serve a population that already exceeds 62,000 inhabitants. Additionally, existing health clinics in the northern and southern areas of the municipality will be improved. There are also plans for a modern residence for the elderly, capable of housing up to 150 people.
It is not only about improving social infrastructure; the agreement also includes measures to strengthen local security. Additional resources will be allocated to the Local Police, and a new fire station is projected to be built. Economically, a new municipal slaughterhouse valued at 12 million euros is planned, which will boost the primary sector and promote employment in the region.
Given its privileged location within the Regional Park of the Upper Manzanares Basin, Colmenar Viejo will see enhanced environmental maintenance with specific investments. 1.3 million euros will be allocated to improve the local Animal Reception Centre, ensuring proper care for needy animals.
During the formal event held at the Real Casa de Correos, Carlos Blázquez highlighted that this agreement represents a crucial strategic bet for Colmenar Viejo. The locality is experiencing one of the best moments in its recent history, consolidating itself as a dynamic environment ideal for both young people and families, while boosting its business potential.
