A case that shocks the community
The Provincial Court of Madrid has issued a strong sentence against an evangelical pastor from Getafe, who has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing four girls aged between 6 and 10 years. This case, which has generated great uproar in the locality, dates back to late 2020 and early 2021, when the victims began to recount their traumatic experiences.
The accused, a 50-year-old Ecuadorian man, used a game called ‘blind man's bluff’ to carry out his abuses. According to investigations, the pastor would cover the girls' eyes with a scarf or handkerchief and make them guess which finger he was putting in their mouths. In exchange for these ‘games’, he promised gifts or small monetary rewards, as well as urging them to keep what happened a secret.
During the trial, the prosecutor initially requested a total sentence of 40 years, considering multiple serious offenses against minors. However, after reaching an agreement with the defence and the private prosecution, the pastor accepted a reduced sentence due to a mitigating factor for damage repair; he paid 8,000 euros to each victim as part of the agreement.
The news has left a mark on the local evangelical congregation and the entire community. The initial complaint was filed by a mother whose daughter revealed the inappropriate touching suffered during activities organised by the pastor. Following this complaint, an investigation was launched that led to the arrest of the accused in September 2021.
Despite having no prior criminal record and being released on bail after his initial detention, the judicial process culminated in this final sentence that requires the convicted man to enter prison in the coming days. This case highlights not only the importance of child testimony but also how institutions must act swiftly in response to such serious allegations.
