A transforming neighbourhood

In the heart of La Guindalera, a Madrid neighbourhood known for its welcoming atmosphere, an unexpected phenomenon has emerged: an ecosystem of businesses dedicated exclusively to the wellbeing of dogs. This new approach to pets not only reflects a growing trend in society but is also transforming the way owners interact with their animals.

Dogterra, opened less than a year ago, has become a local reference. Joaquín, its operations manager, explains that this centre is not just a dog daycare; it offers training and grooming services. With an innovative approach, Dogterra organises monthly activities that include everything from play sessions to “dance hours with Sevillanas music.” This initiative aims to combat the loneliness and anxiety that many dogs suffer when their owners are away during the day.

Here, every dog must pass a free test to ensure it can socialise properly with other canines. Joaquín points out that this process is essential for maintaining a harmonious environment. Additionally, the fees can be high —up to 499 euros a month— which makes Dogterra a luxury accessible only to some. However, Joaquín observes a cultural shift: “There are more and more dogs and fewer children,” which could justify these prices.

A few steps away is Chuchos Deluxe, another innovative business where owners can wash their pets in facilities designed to minimise the animal's stress. Laura, the owner, shares her vision about this dog self-wash: “It’s like a low-stress laundromat.” Here, they offer natural products and valerian snacks to help reduce anxiety in dogs.

Laura highlights how perceptions of animal care have changed. She used to give her dog conventional treats; now she researches healthy foods and even sells natural cakes for dogs. This change reflects a greater awareness of animal wellbeing among owners.

Both Joaquín and Laura agree on the importance of community roots. Both businesses have grown thanks to local support and have contributed to creating a network dedicated to animal wellbeing in La Guindalera. This neighbourhood already has several specialised shops and dog daycares, indicating a clear trend towards comprehensive pet care.

As more people adopt this new philosophy towards their pets, La Guindalera is positioning itself as a pioneer in Madrid in offering exclusive and personalised services for dogs. This phenomenon not only benefits the animals; it also fosters a more conscious and engaged community with animal wellbeing.
