A win that relieves and motivates
Sevilla FC has achieved a vital victory in their fight for survival in LaLiga, defeating Atlético de Madrid 2-1 in an exciting match held at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium. This win not only represents three essential points but also marks a turning point for the team managed by Luis García Plaza, who recently took charge.
From the first minute, the Sevilla players showed remarkable intensity, aware of the pressure they faced after falling into relegation positions. Five minutes into the match, a play between young talents Dani Martínez and Isaac Romero resulted in a penalty after VAR review. The Nigerian Akor Adams took responsibility for converting the penalty, scoring his eighth goal of the season and putting Sevilla ahead (1-0).
Despite the initial blow, Atlético de Madrid did not back down. With several youth players in their starting lineup, such as Javi Boñar and Julio Díaz, the rojiblancos began to take control of the ball. Their efforts paid off when Boñar scored on his La Liga debut, equalising the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute with a well-worked goal.
Just when it seemed both teams would head into halftime level, Sevilla took advantage of a set-piece situation. In the second minute of added time, Nemanja Gudelj connected with a corner taken by Rubén Vargas, sending the ball into the net and regaining the lead for the hosts (2-1). This goal was crucial in boosting Sevilla's morale and establishing a solid defence for the second half.
The second half continued with a similar script: Atlético dominated possession while Sevilla strategically regrouped around their goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. Despite having opportunities to extend their lead —such as a clear shot from Isaac Romero that hit the post— the hosts had to deal with increasing tension as the clock ticked down.
As the end of the match approached, Sevilla maintained their slim advantage against a rival that failed to convert their offensive attempts. This victory not only provides immediate relief to the Andalusian team but also injects confidence to face the upcoming matches with renewed hopes.
