Atlético comments on the future of its star
Amid a sea of speculation, Atlético de Madrid has stepped forward to clarify the situation regarding its star forward, Julián Álvarez. Club sources have stated that the Argentine player, who has been pivotal in the rojiblanco attack since his arrival two years ago, "is not for sale" and that they have not received any formal offer from Barcelona.
The Spider, as Álvarez is known, has a contract with Atlético until 2030. This agreement includes a release clause that amounts to the impressive figure of 500 million euros. This figure underscores the Madrid club's intention to keep its top scorer, who has netted 49 goals in 106 matches.
Club sources have expressed their frustration at what they consider media harassment towards the player. "We are very tired of months and months of fabrications and half-truths," they stated. They also criticized Barcelona's attitude, suggesting that it behaves like a "small team" by attempting to destabilise one of their most valuable players.
Despite the uproar caused by recent news, Atlético has exonerated Julián Álvarez, attributing the situation to external manoeuvres by agents. The club highlighted that the forward has maintained an impeccable professional attitude since his arrival.
Not only Barcelona is interested in signing the attacker; teams like Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest. However, from the Spotify Camp Nou offices, they expect to resolve this situation before the World Cup scheduled to start on June 11.
Despite Atlético's strong statements, some media report that a meeting recently took place between Fernando Hidalgo, Julián Álvarez's representative, and Deco, Barcelona's sporting director. Although the Catalans wish to move quickly in their negotiations after recently finalising the signing of Anthonny Gordon, it seems unlikely that this process will be so swift.
