A journey that turned dangerous
An alarming incident took place on the A-66 near Mérida, where two fans of Real Sociedad were arrested by the Civil Guard of Badajoz. These individuals, travelling in three vans, harassed a group of Atlético de Madrid supporters while returning from a match in Seville. The reckless maneuvers carried out by the fans created a panic situation among the witnesses present.
The intervention occurred at kilometre 627, when authorities received alerts about the aggressive behaviour of the occupants. According to the Government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, the detainees, both of legal age and from the Basque Country, will be investigated through criminal proceedings, as their actions endangered the lives of other drivers.
Sandra, a witness to the incident, shared her experience with the media. She recorded the exact moment when one of the vehicles opened its side door to confront the Atlético fans. “We experienced moments of panic because they looked at us badly,” confessed Sandra, who also expressed her willingness to cooperate with the authorities if necessary. “I have no problem reporting this disgraceful gang,” she added.
Such incidents are not new in the world of Spanish football, where intense rivalries can lead to extreme situations. Violence between radical groups has been a concern for both authorities and sports clubs. The Civil Guard has emphasised the importance of acting quickly at any sign of violence or harassment during sporting events.
