An unprecedented deployment for the San Isidro festivities
The city of Madrid is gearing up to celebrate one of its most emblematic festivals, San Isidro, with an impressive security operation that includes 2,300 municipal police and 300 Samur paramedics. Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz has confirmed that this operation will begin on Thursday, May 7, and will last until the 17th, coinciding with the various activities scheduled in honour of the city’s patron.
The deployment will focus particularly on the Pradera de San Isidro and the Las Vistillas park, two key locations where a large influx of people is expected. Additionally, other spaces such as Plaza Mayor and Matadero Madrid will also have intensified surveillance. Sanz has urged attendees to use public transport and enjoy the event without complications.
The officers assigned to the operation will be both in uniform and plain clothes, allowing for greater capacity to prevent thefts and disturbances. This team comes from various comprehensive police stations in the district, as well as the Cavalry Squadron and the Canine Section. Aerial support will also be provided by drones to monitor the busiest areas.
Samur Civil Protection will establish an advanced medical post in the Pradera, in addition to deploying ambulances adapted to different levels of emergency according to daily attendance. Specialized units will be ready to intervene quickly if necessary, ensuring that all attendees receive adequate medical care during the festivities.
Not only police and paramedics are involved; the Madrid Firefighters will also play a crucial role by daily checking safety around the park and pradera access points. They are prepared to act in case of any incidents related to the fireworks scheduled during the celebrations.
As the official start of the event approaches with the opening speech in Plaza de Villa, authorities hope this edition will be peaceful and enjoyable for everyone. With a proactive approach to public safety, Madrid is ready to welcome thousands of visitors eager to celebrate San Isidro.
