The security situation in Madrid has become a hot topic, especially following the alarming figure of 130 stabbings since the beginning of 2025. This fact has led to a blame game between the City Hall and the Government Delegation, where both sides seek to clarify responsibilities and effective solutions.
The Government Delegate, Francisco Martín, has requested updated information on the actions being taken in Parque Paraíso, located in San Blas-Canillejas. This request comes after a meeting held last week, where the Community of Madrid was not present. Martín has emphasised the need to address this issue from a broader perspective that includes social and health measures.
In response to these demands, Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz has pointed out that it is the exclusive responsibility of the Government Delegation to ensure safety in the capital. Sanz did not hesitate to criticise the delegate for his limited approach, suggesting that simply increasing police presence is not enough to solve complex problems. “Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that complex issues cannot be resolved with simplistic solutions,” she stated.
Sanz also emphasised that the City Hall is already implementing police devices and social measures to address this crisis. However, her message was clear: “If you cannot guarantee the safety of Madrid residents, then resign and let someone else take over.” This comment underscores the growing political tensions between both institutions as citizens continue to worry about their safety.
As violence figures rise, many citizens are demanding a more comprehensive approach to tackle this issue. The lack of coordination between local and regional administrations may be exacerbating an already critical situation.
