Sexual exploitation network dismantled in Madrid: eight women freed after years of suffering

Operation ‘Socavón’: a blow to human trafficking

The National Police has carried out a decisive operation in Madrid, dismantling a criminal organisation dedicated to the sexual exploitation of women. The operation, known as ‘Socavón’, culminated in the liberation of eight women who had been forced into prostitution for over ten years in a villa located in the Ciudad Lineal district.

The investigations began at the end of last year when two brave women decided to report the inhumane conditions they were subjected to. The villa, which operated 24 hours a day, was designed to maximise the economic profits of its exploiters, who managed to collect up to 6,000 euros in a single morning.

The property had a basement where ten bunk beds for about 15 women were located, creating an environment of extreme overcrowding. The victims lived under strict rules imposed by their captors, who controlled every aspect of their daily lives.

The rules were severe, and any breach resulted in financial penalties that increased the already overwhelming debt of the victims. For example, sitting without underwear in certain areas of the villa could cost between 20 and 30 euros. Additionally, the basement was equipped with sound and light alarms that forced the women to interrupt any activity when clients arrived.

The organisation not only exploited these women once they arrived in Spain; they also used deceptive tactics to lure them from their home countries. They promised attractive job opportunities that quickly turned into economic traps. Once in the country, the victims signed contracts without knowing the real terms, which generated an initial debt with their exploiters.

Aside from systematic sexual abuse, it was discovered that some victims were forced to engage in sexual relations with minors. The situation was so desperate that many resorted to drug use within the villa itself as a mechanism to cope with their suffering.

Aside from the couple responsible for the place, four accomplices were arrested during this operation. Although the liberation of these eight women is a significant step towards justice, the road to their recovery will be long and filled with emotional and psychological challenges.
