Police operation reveals the harsh reality behind a brothel in Madrid
In a shocking operation, the National Police have dismantled a brothel in the Madrid district of Tetuán, which had operated for over ten years as a centre for sexual exploitation. The investigation, which began on January 19, uncovered a complex criminal network that used women not only as sex workers but also as currency in transactions with suppliers.
The organisation devised innovative strategies to attract and retain clients. Among them was the figure of the “girl of the day”, who offered reduced rates, as well as monthly raffles where winners could enjoy “an hour of free sex.” Additionally, clients could access free services after accumulating visits or receive special discounts for celebrating their birthdays or bringing in new users.
However, the working conditions for the women were extremely harsh. They were forced to work without rest, even in adverse situations such as illness or menstruation. In these cases, they had to use vaginal sponges to continue providing services. Those who refused faced threats from their captors.
The control of the business fell to a woman who supervised the operations of the establishment twice a day. Around her, several managers handled shifts and appointments while attending to clients and providing alcohol or drugs when requested. The forced consumption of substances was an integral part of the service; if a client requested it, the women were obliged to comply with this demand.
The operation culminated on March 19 with agents entering the premises, seizing mobile phones, computer materials, and accounting documents related to the illicit business. Viagra pills and €3,500 in cash were also found. As a result of the operation, five women were freed; three received immediate assistance due to the critical conditions in which they were found.
Five alleged perpetrators have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody facing serious charges including organised crime, coercive prostitution, and money laundering. This case once again brings to the forefront the issue of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Spain.
