A new initiative for tenants in Madrid
The situation of tenants in the Vive Plan, one of the regional government's most ambitious housing initiatives, has led Más Madrid to launch an innovative campaign. This Friday, the opposition party activated an online mailbox aimed at collecting complaints and reports from those already residing in the more than 5,000 homes available under this programme.
With the slogan ‘Plan MalVIVE’, the political party seeks to give voice to tenants who have experienced problems since receiving their homes. Manuela Bergerot, spokesperson for the group in the Assembly, has pointed out that many residents have reported damages and constant failures, which has generated a climate of widespread discontent. “We cannot allow this policy to become a model of housing with deficiencies and high rents,” Bergerot stated.
Through the online mailbox, Más Madrid hopes to compel the regional government to provide clear answers to what they consider an evident indifference. The lack of attention from the Executive has been criticized by party representatives, who plan to take these concerns not only to the regional parliament but also to the municipalities where the affected developments are located.
Since March 2024, when the first homes were delivered in Alcorcón, numerous complaints have arisen related to constant breakdowns and basic problems, such as failures in essential supplies and low-quality materials. Additionally, some tenants have reported disturbing noises and concerns about safety in their buildings. This is compounded by the alarming fact that many rents exceed what is expected for a programme aimed at providing affordable housing.
As this campaign progresses, Más Madrid representatives plan to personally visit the affected developments to hear directly from residents about their experiences and concerns. This action aims not only to gather relevant documentation but also to advance formal claims to the regional government.
As these events unfold, it is clear that the future of the Vive Plan could be jeopardised if the concerns raised by its tenants are not adequately addressed. Pressure on the government increases as Más Madrid continues its fight to ensure decent conditions for all those who depend on this housing programme.
