A new concept of market in Madrid
In the heart of Madrid, an innovative market has captured the attention of citizens by offering furniture, clothing and decor at no cost. This event, which will take place on May 17 at Puerta del Ángel, is an initiative driven by the project I'm in the Trash, which aims to highlight the vast number of useful items that are discarded daily.
It all started in 2020 when Sandra, its founder, decided to share images of abandoned items that could still be used. Her Instagram account quickly gained popularity and transformed into a community movement focused on reuse and responsible consumption. Since then, it has grown into a physical event where people can rescue valuable items.
The market will take place at El Girasol, located at Calle Caramuel, 68. Attendees will find a variety of recovered items through donations and collections made throughout Madrid. Among the treasures available will be small furniture, vintage clothing, books and household utensils, all ready for a new life.
Although entry will be free, those interested must reserve their spot through Eventbrite to ensure proper crowd control. The link for reservations will be published a day before the event in the project's Instagram stories.
A distinctive feature of the market is its inclusive dynamic: each attendee will receive symbolic coins upon entry, which they can use to exchange for the desired items. Additionally, a video showcasing all available items will be shared before the event so that visitors can plan their visit in advance.
This market is not just about obtaining free items; it also aims to promote a more sustainable culture among its participants. With each edition, people with diverse interests have gathered: from local neighbours to vintage decor enthusiasts or those committed to reducing waste. The organisation hopes that this space will not only serve to exchange material goods but also to create connections between individuals with like-minded ideas about responsible consumption.
