Unprecedented police operation
In a decisive blow against drug trafficking, the National Police has dismantled a criminal organization operating from Madrid, specializing in international cocaine trafficking. The operation, which took place on January 13, resulted in the arrest of twelve individuals and the seizure of over 3,400 kilos of drugs, as well as weapons and vehicles used for their illicit activities.
The investigation revealed that this network operated as a clandestine logistics operator, responsible for the transport and distribution of cocaine from southern Spain to industrial warehouses in the Community of Madrid. Members of the group regularly traveled to the southern peninsula to collect the merchandise, which was then stored and handled in two warehouses located in Alcobendas and Fuente el Saz.
The drug traffickers employed sophisticated methods to avoid detection by law enforcement. They used convoys made up of vans rented in the names of third parties and shuttle vehicles that acted as counter-surveillance measures. This strategy became evident after several previous seizures, including a recent interception in Sweden where 125 kilos were found hidden inside a vehicle.
During the searches carried out by the authorities, not only large quantities of cocaine were found but also weaponry. In one warehouse, bales containing 3,250 kilos of cocaine were discovered along with machinery intended for vacuum packaging and other materials used to conceal the drugs. In another search, a semi-automatic submachine gun was found hidden in a false ceiling along with half a kilo of hashish.
The investigations began in early 2024 and gained momentum following collaboration with international police forces from Sweden, Poland, and Portugal. This joint effort allowed the critical storage point of the drugs to be located after Swedish authorities intercepted a truck loaded with narcotics coming from Spain.
As a result of the operation carried out by the Special Operations Group (GEO), all those arrested have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary and remanded in custody on charges related to membership in a criminal organization, illegal possession of weapons, and crimes against public health. The investigation remains open as authorities analyze the electronic devices and other items recovered during the searches.
