A vehicle collision on Paseo de la Castellana caused one of the cars to end up embedded in the stairs of the Begoña metro station. A woman was seriously injured.
A traffic accident that occurred at midnight on Monday, July 13, has left two people injured, one of them with serious injuries. The incident took place at number 263 on Paseo de la Castellana, one of Madrid's main arteries, when two cars collided and one lost control, ending up embedded in the stairs leading to the Begoña metro. According to sources from Emergencias Madrid, the occupants of the vehicle were a man and a woman, both around 40 years old. While the man suffered a minor ankle fracture, the woman has multiple traumas and her condition is considered serious. The supervisor of Samur-Protección Civil, Abel Jimeno, indicated that "we are concerned about a pelvic fracture" in the woman, which has raised her prognosis to critical. After the accident, firefighters and Samur-PC quickly mobilised to the scene to carry out extrication maneuvers and remove the vehicle with the help of a crane. Javier Ramos, the duty chief of the Madrid fire department, confirmed that work was carried out to sanitise the entrance to the metro following the incident. The Municipal Police is already investigating the causes of the crash while awaiting a more detailed report on the circumstances that led to this dramatic accident. Such incidents are not new; just three years ago, another similar accident occurred near the same point, although without serious injuries. Medical services transported the injured to La Paz Hospital for specialised care. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in this area, which is heavily trafficked by pedestrians and vehicles due to its proximity to key public transport stations.
