Criminal gang dismantled after violent jewellery heist in Madrid

A bold heist in the heart of Madrid

The tranquillity of the Ciudad Lineal district was interrupted last Wednesday by a violent robbery at a jewellery store, which led the National Police to dismantle a dangerous criminal gang. Seven individuals were arrested following an operation that put an end to a criminal plan that had caught the attention of the authorities due to its peculiar modus operandi.

The criminals, in an attempt to avoid raising suspicion, chose to disguise themselves as members of a religious order. At 11:30 am, the group entered the establishment located at number 342 on the iconic Alcalá street. While one man and a woman pretended to be a priest and a nun, they requested to see valuable items, allowing another accomplice to violently burst in and subdue the shop assistant.

Fortunately, the police intervention was almost immediate. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found themselves in a tense situation; the fake priest pulled out a firearm, threatening the officials. However, thanks to their professionalism, they managed to subdue him before a greater tragedy occurred. Two other members of the group were arrested nearby while conducting surveillance.

However, some members of the group attempted to escape in a vehicle. This led to a thrilling car chase that culminated on the motorway towards Puente de Vallecas. In their desperation to evade justice, the fugitives rammed a patrol car before being finally apprehended.

This robbery is not an isolated case; it is the sixth similar incident recorded in Madrid this month. The police are investigating whether this gang is behind other recent thefts at jewellery stores and gold trading establishments in nearby towns such as Torrejón de Ardoz and Torrelodones.

As the investigation progresses, there have been indications suggesting the existence not only of this gang but also other criminal cells operating simultaneously. The authorities are working to clarify whether these groups are connected to each other or if they operate independently.
