Operation against the illegal trafficking of car parts
The Civil Guard has carried out a successful operation that has resulted in the dismantling of a criminal group made up of 15 individuals, who operated in the Community of Madrid. This group was dedicated to the systematic theft of vehicles, which were subsequently dismantled to sell their parts on the international market.
The investigation began at the start of last year, when authorities detected suspicious activities in an industrial warehouse located in Colmenar de Oreja. Agents began to follow leads regarding the possible illegal dismantling of stolen cars, which led to a series of deeper inquiries.
As the investigations progressed, the researchers managed to reconstruct how this group operated. It was discovered that the vehicles were primarily stolen in different localities of the Community of Madrid and taken to a property where they were dismantled.
Once dismantled, the parts were transported to another warehouse located in Camarma de Esteruelas. From there, the components were loaded onto trucks bound for abroad, thus facilitating their irregular introduction into the international market. This modus operandi not only complicated the traceability of the stolen vehicles but also posed an additional risk: some had previously been used by other criminal groups to commit crimes.
During the operation, different scrap yards within the region were identified that acted as receiving points for some parts coming from the dismantling. These facilities were crucial for understanding how the logistics chain of the stolen material operated.
As a result of the operation, judicial searches were carried out where five already dismantled vehicles and parts belonging to another 14 cars were seized. Additionally, a firearm, a machete, and over 1,200 euros in cash were confiscated.
The detainees are charged with several crimes related to vehicle theft, membership in a criminal organisation, and receiving stolen goods. The Civil Guard estimates that the total value of the stolen cars could reach up to 500,000 euros. The investigation remains open to determine if these individuals are involved in another 30 additional crimes.
