The National Police have arrested four men involved in a criminal network dedicated to the theft of bicycles and electric scooters. The arrests occurred following several reports of thefts in the area.
A criminal group operating in Fuenlabrada has been dismantled by the National Police, resulting in the arrest of four men accused of stealing bicycles and electric scooters. The investigation began in May when authorities noticed an unusual increase in the thefts of these vehicles, which were primarily carried out during the day in public places such as gyms and shopping centres. The leader of the group, identified by the agents, received specific orders to steal particular vehicles, thus coordinating the actions of the rest of the team.
The thefts followed a well-defined pattern: the criminals used hidden tools to cut security chains and carried out their misdeeds in a matter of minutes. Once they managed to seize the bicycles or scooters, they transported them to the establishment of the alleged leader, where they were subsequently sold. In one of the most striking cases, a victim recognised their bicycle displayed in the window of the criminal leader's shop.
On June 8, after gathering enough evidence regarding the group's illegal activities, the police conducted a search of the establishment where the stolen items were stored. During this operation, several stolen vehicles were recovered and returned to their rightful owners. The three arrested face eleven charges related to theft and receiving stolen goods.
Additionally, a parallel investigation led to the capture of a fourth suspect who used digital platforms to deceive private sellers. This individual arranged appointments to test electric scooters before appropriating them with no intention of returning them. He is attributed with at least four charges for this modus operandi.
In total, these operations have clarified 16 criminal acts, highlighting police effectiveness in addressing this growing type of crime related to urban mobility. Citizen collaboration was key in identifying patterns and facilitating investigations.
