An Unexpected Act

The world of Spanish football has been shaken by a surprising incident involving Francisco Medina, known as Piti, a former prominent player for Rayo Vallecano. At 44 years old, Piti has not only been a recognised figure in the sport but has also been involved in the management of Club Atlético Pinto. However, his career has taken an unexpected turn after being convicted of vandalism.

On October 12, 2022, around 7 PM, Piti was recorded scratching an Audi Q7 in the car park of the Las Rozas Village shopping centre, located in Madrid. The vehicle belonged to José María Garzón, president of Atlético Pinto and a lawyer who had taken full control of the club that very day. The security cameras not only captured the moment but also revealed Piti's swift escape after committing the act.

Following the complaint filed by Garzón, the evidence was overwhelming and led the Criminal Court number 22 of Madrid to convict Piti to six months of fines. This translates to a payment of approximately 550 euros, in addition to covering the costs incurred from the damage caused to the car, which amounted to nearly 800 euros. The conviction was accepted by the former footballer from the outset.

Piti had a notable career in La Liga between 2007 and 2016, playing for teams such as Zaragoza and Granada before retiring definitively in Greece. In July 2020, he became a co-owner and technical director of Atlético Pinto alongside other well-known former players. However, this scandal could tarnish his legacy within football.

Although the motives behind the attack remain a subject of speculation, it is known that Garzón had taken preventive measures by installing cameras around his car due to strange incidents that had occurred previously. This fact raises questions about the relationship between the two men and whether there were prior tensions that led to this impulsive act.

Piti had previously expressed his passion for teaching young footballers and his desire to remain connected to the sport even after his retirement. However, this incident casts doubt on his future both on and off the pitch. The football community is closely watching how events unfold to see if he can regain his reputation or if this scandal will mark the definitive end of his career.
