A fatal accident shocks Madrid
Tuesday morning turned tragic in Madrid when a 28-year-old driver lost his life in a fire that engulfed his rubbish truck. The incident occurred around 2:15 AM on the service road of the A-3, specifically at kilometre 13.5, near Valdecarros.
Despite the heroic efforts made by his colleagues, who tried to rescue him from the burning vehicle, the driver was trapped inside the cabin. Witnesses report that the two workers who came to his aid suffered burns during the rescue attempt. Sources from Emergencias Madrid have confirmed that these brave efforts could not prevent the inevitable.
Emergency teams arrived quickly at the scene of the accident, but by then the truck was already fully ablaze. The Fire Brigade worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames; however, unfortunately, they could not save the young driver. The situation was devastating and left a deep mark on those present.
Various Samur-Protección Civil teams attended to the two injured workers at the scene before they were taken to Madrid hospitals. One was taken to Gregorio Marañón Hospital with minor burns on his hands, while the other was evacuated to La Paz Hospital with a moderate prognosis due to more severe burns on his arms and face.
This tragic incident has reopened the debate on workplace safety and the conditions under which workers in the sector operate. The community comes together to pay tribute to the young deceased and reflect on how to improve preventive measures to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
